HJFMRI Board of Directors

Corey Hastings, MBA, CPA

Chairman

In addition to his role as Chairman of the HJFMRI Board, Mr. Hastings is Senior Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of HJFMRI’s parent company, The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF), where he leads accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, treasury, procure-to-pay and financial planning and analysis.  Mr. Hastings is a CPA and received a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from the Raymond A. Mason School of Business at William & Mary.

Elizabeth "Betsy" Folk

Director

In addition to her role as a Director on the HJFMRI Board, Ms. Folk is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of HJFMRI’s parent company, HJF, where she is senior advisor to the CEO and executive team. Ms. Folk received a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Maryland, and an M.B.A. from the Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Merlin Robb, M.D.

Director

In addition to his role as a Director on the HJFMRI Board, Dr. Robb is Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of HJFMRI’s parent company, HJF, where he advises leadership and staff on medical and public health matters. He also served as the Program Director in support of MHRP for 17 years, where he played an essential role in establishing the program’s vaccine development efforts in East Africa. Dr. Robb received his M.D. from the Baylor College of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at Madigan Army Medical Center and was a Fellow in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Nadine Malloy

In addition to her role as a Director on the HJFMRI Board, Ms. Malloy is Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer of HJFMRI’s parent company, HJF, where she leads global human capital and human resources directives and initiatives.  Ms. Malloy holds a B.A. in Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis and is a graduate of the Defense Language Institute.

Joseph Caravalho, Jr., M.D.

President

Dr. Caravalho is responsible for the guidance and leadership of HJFMRI. In addition to his role as President of HJFMRI, Dr. Caravalho is the President and Chief Executive Officer of HJFMRI’s parent company, HJF.  Dr. Caravalho previously served as the Joint Staff Surgeon at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and Chief Medical Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, prior to which he was Army Deputy Surgeon General and Deputy Commanding General (Support) of the U.S. Army Medical Command.  Dr. Caravalho holds a B.A. in Math from Gonzaga University, a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College and an M.D. from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

In addition to her role as Treasurer for HJFMRI, Ms. Folk serves as a Director on the HJFMRI Board as well as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for HJFMRI’s parent company, HJF. Ms. Folk received a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Maryland, and an M.B.A. from the Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Jennifer Tam Geib, J.D.

Secretary

In addition to her role as corporate Secretary for HJFMRI.  Ms. Geib is Assistant General Counsel for HJFMRI’s parent company, HJF.  Ms. Geib received her B.S. in Accounting and International Business summa cum laude from the University of Maryland and her J.D. cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.


 

HJFMRI Operational Leadership

Tiffany Hamm, Ph.D.

Vice President, Global Research Development

Dr. Hamm leads HJF’s Global Operations Portfolio, overseeing scientific management of programs and research centers that are part of the HJF’s global efforts. She has more than 16 years of expertise working with nonprofits and U.S. government-funded institutions in executing global public health programs.

Christopher Bayer, PMP

Director, International Operations

Christopher Bayer has worked for HJF and its subsidiaries for over 20 years. He now serves as the Deputy Portfolio Leader for Global Operations and the Director of International Operations.

Sandhya Vasan, M.D.

Vice President, Global Infectious Diseases Research

In 2019, Dr. Sandhya Vasan became the Principal Investigator representing HJF for MHRP’s cooperative agreement (CA) with the DoD. In addition to overseeing HJF components of the CA, she provides key leadership for MHRP’s wide array of basic and clinical studies. She has been with MRHP since 2011, initially in Bangkok, Thailand.

Paul Zaremba

Paul Zaremba has spent the majority of his career between HJF, MHRP, and WRAIR where he served in various management roles leading finance, international operations and business development teams. 

Daniel Ochiel

Daniel Ochiel, Ph.D.

Director of Research-Africa

Dr. Ochiel provides technical guidance, leads the development of forward-looking priorities, and identifying and responding to opportunities to broaden HJFMRI’s research portfolio throughout Africa. He overseas HJFMRI’s broader research efforts on the continent, serving as a principal investigator and mentoring both HJFMRI and collaborating researchers and study teams.
